Don’t just take our word for it – see who we have helped already. Here are some of the things that others have said.

Discovery tool

The Discovery tool has been piloted and refined over a three year period – see what others have to say about the impact and value of the tool on their practice.

It has been a fantastic resource to help raise the profile of digital capabilities and dispel some of the anxieties around this. This is helping us to win hearts and minds and create an openness that will inform a considered programme of support that aligns to broader personal, team and organisational objectives.

Non Lloyd Scantlebury, academic engagement manager, library and computing services, University of Hertfordshire

I found the discovery tool really well put together, it is clear and concise and arguably has more traction and weight having been developed by an external organisation. It would have taken weeks or months to engage staff with something similar had it been devised in-house.

Richard Fullylove, strategic ILT manager / rheolwr TDG strategol, Coleg y Cymoedd

The discovery tool has facilitated discussion across the institution - enabling both individual and strategic level conversations.

Jo Parker, senior library manager at the Open University

The data from the pilot will strengthen our position in terms of informing the areas we need to concentrate our efforts on by providing insight into areas where staff most need support.

John Hill, TEL manager, centre for excellence in learning and teaching, University of Derby

It doesn’t matter how exposed you are to digital capabilities - the discovery tool will highlight where further progress can be made. It gives people of all levels and capabilities a personal development pathway.

Matt Smith, formerly e-Learning project manager, Wales Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education, School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University

Our digital capability frameworks

In addition to our digital capabilities frameworks for individuals and organisations we have role profiles which explore how digital capabilities might apply to a variety of roles from teacher (HE and FE), researcher, learner, library and information professional, learning technologist to leader.

The framework is very good and very clear. It encompasses a wide range of skills and moves away from digital capabilities just being something technical.

Emily Armstrong, formerly libraries and e-learning manager, Hull College Group

The fact that both UCISA and Jisc were advocating development of digital capabilities gave us a driver and help in persuading others to engage. It would have been much harder without the wealth of resources provided: the frameworks, role profiles, discovery tool and guidance and resources - essentially a toolkit for the sector to use and adapt.

Non Lloyd Scantlebury, academic engagement manager, library and computing services, University of Hertfordshire

Digital skills are one of the academic literacies that students and staff need to develop. The Jisc framework was helpful in stretching our understanding, in particular in relation to digital identity and wellbeing.

Dr Frances Deepwell, Director of Leicester Learning Institute, University of Leicester

Digital capability community of practice

This open community of practice with over 100 active participants welcomes staff and leaders in colleges and universities with a role and interest in the development of digital capabilities. There is a strong emphasis on leadership by the community, learning from each other and sharing what works.

Thanks to all for organising and participating in a brilliant workshop. Great sharing of ideas and initiatives and a lot of inspiration to take back to University of Northampton.

Jim Harris, learning designer, The University of Northampton

I am working on a relatively new project involving 20+ staff-student partnerships projects. My objective was to explore what makes a digital project successful and how this success can be assessed. This was achieved by discussing the project with others, sharing ideas and taking inspiration from them and from the activities throughout the day.

Community of practice delegate, November 2017

Training

Developed and delivered by experts, our high-quality training is designed to help you develop in-house expertise and make the most of our services and solutions.

As part of my induction I went to the digital leaders’ course. For me the big win was connecting with other digital leaders in colleges and universities around the UK. There are some exciting technologies out there and I need to make sure that both our staff and students are equipped and ready to thrive in that digital environment.

Deborah Millar, formerly at Salford College and now group director of digital learning technology at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education
