Discovery tool content
A range of manual tests were carried out on the site in March 2020. Work to address the issues identified was completed in September 2020. We undertook a second round of testing using the automated testing tool SiteImprove to further enhance the accessibility of the site in November 2020. We'll issue an update on our progress by the end of March 2021.
Issues with pdfs and other documents
Many of our older pdfs and Word documents don’t meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value). Any new pdfs or Word documents we publish should meet accessibility standards.
Content that’s not within scope of the accessibility regulations
Older pdfs and other documents
The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix pdfs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Older podcasts
The accessibility regulations don’t require us to provide transcripts for podcasts published before 23 September 2020. Though we will provide them for new podcasts, we won’t provide them for podcasts published before September 2019.
How we tested this website
This website was tested in September 2020 using the automated test tool SiteImprove.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are looking to correct these compliance issues at the earliest opportunity through development work on the site and we are improving our software development and user experience design processes so that they take account of accessibility requirements as early as possible.
